11/1/2015 - This last Sunday, the Team held a fundraiser and outreach event in the form of a Can Drive. Every year, students are required to participate in at least one fundraiser for the team, and this was one of the first opportunities available. Students walked through the neighborhoods around Troy High, and went door to door collecting returnable cans and bottles essentially fishing for cans.
For every house that the students visited, brochures were handed out with information on the team, in order to allow more people to learn about the team. A mass email was also sent out to troy parents, requesting that people interested sign up to have cans collected from their house before they were collected. At the end of the day, around 40 students, divided into 10 groups participated in the event. They traveled through over 2 square miles in a neighborhood and collected well over 9000 cans. After depositing the cans that were returnable and recycling the rest, the team earned a total of $831. The money will be used to help pay for competitions, trips, and materials for the robot.
